Cleve was a dedicated family man who always put his loved ones before himself. In his younger years he received his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from General Motors Institute before serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he focused on radio field operations. He went on to have a career as a Mechanical Engineer for General Motors where he was a member of the "Frigidaire Tom Club", merging his analytical mind with his interest in stocks. In his spare time Cleve traveled the nation, visiting all fifty states alongside his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was also a regular at his grandchildren's functions, where he loved showing his support. He was planning on traveling out west to visit the Four Corners and was especially looking forward to attending his granddaughter’s graduation from BGSU next year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edward and Rose Mae Hemmingsen; and brother, Pastor George Bernard Hemmingsen.
Cleve is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bobbette Hemmingsen (Ruble); daughter, Kris (Shawn) Sumner; sons, Tom Hemmingsen, and David Hemmingsen; grandchildren, Brittany, Stephen, and Christopher Sumner, Hannah, and Leah Hemmingsen; and sister, Geraldine Young.
A visitation for Cleveland will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Home, 40 North Main Street, Springboro, Ohio 45066, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
