Elsie Maie Black, age 91, of Springboro, passed away on March 11th, 2024 in Hospice care at Artis Senior Living. Elsie was born February 4, 1933 in Springboro, OH to Clarence and Dora Lamb. Elsie enjoyed gardening, crocheting and being with her family.
Elsie was a graduate of Springboro High School (SHS), class of 1951, where she was a member of the band and played the tenor saxophone during her high school years.
Elsie and her siblings grew up in Red Lion, Ohio on a small farm where they raised goats, chickens, and dairy cows. She also waited tables at Mom’s Restaurant located on the corned at the 5-points intersection of SR122, SR123 & SR741.
Upon graduation from SHS, Elsie began a working career that lasted 44 plus years. She worked in Springboro at Charlie Lamb’s Marathon Gas Station (current location of the K & W,) a small grocery/ice cream store on the corner of Main and Market Street, which became a laundry mat that she managed, she worked as a cook in the soda fountain at Bennet’s Drug Store, and she spent the final 28 working years at Water Refining making water softeners in Middletown, Ohio.
Elsie was known to her family and friends as being loving, kind and extremely generous. Visitors to her house rarely left empty handed as she was always sharing something new that she made or prepared.
Elsie is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Bill and Charles Lamb; sisters Dorothy (Lamb) Eyler and Rosie (Lamb) Shurts; and her husband of 70 years Ronald Black. Elsie is survived by her twin sister Esther (Lamb) Gregg; her son Rick (Kristi) Black; grandchildren Ryan Black, Hayley Black, Bryan Goodson, Clarissa (Andre) Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Bryella, Cameron and Christian.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Anderson Funeral Home- Franklin Chapel, 1357 East Second Street, Franklin. Interment will follow in Springboro Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services on Monday.
