George Alan Hoyng was born in Dayton, OH in 1953. Following his father Arnold’s passing, his mother Edna moved the family to Coldwater where he graduated from high school in 1971. He subsequently attended Wright State University to pursue an accounting degree. He delayed obtaining a CPA for several years, opting to work in construction, which he fondly reminisced over into a well-earned retirement.
He started a tax accounting career at Deloitte & Touche, becoming a savant in tax law and regulation, prior to his transition into a real estate and finance position he would dedicate the remainder of his professional career. Taxes were a true passion that he would obsess over his whole life.
George met his future wife, Kathy, a fellow Deloitte alumnus, after his transition into finance. He traded New York work trips that he would vaguely recant while smiling for a wife he would devote the rest of his life towards.
George kept a set of narrow and fanatic interests. He would set an alarm for 3:00 AM to exercise and watch a VHS taped CNBC program before heading to the office. His daily routine may aptly be described as ascetic. Mostly, he focused on providing for his wife and son, as well performing duties to the church and broader community.
George’s wife’s illness and passing in 2020 were incredibly difficult, but he responded with dignity and strength. He loved the Book of Job, and his handling of adversity reflects his devotion to the text.
George is survived by his son Elliott, as well as siblings Ann, Paula, and Charles. His childhood friends Chris, Pete, Dave, and Stan kept in close contact throughout his life. He often met with his men’s fellowship group who provided additional spiritual support.
His sister Paula offered physical care, emotional support, and guidance to George in his final months. She was invaluable in easing his transition to the afterlife with his deceased wife, Kathy.
A visitation for George will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 9579 Yankee Road, Springboro, Ohio 45066. Following the visitation will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St, Mary of the Assumption Church, 9579 Yankee Road, Springboro, Ohio, 45066.
