

An Ironton, Ohio native he was employed with the C&O Railroad in communications in both Russell, KY and The Union Terminal in Cincinnati Ohio. He utilized morse code for rail communications. He later graduated from IBM Mainframe computer programming school, and later retired from Ohio Casualty Insurance Groups after working as a Computer Programming Manager for several years.
A Military Veteran, Mal was drafted to serve the US Army in communications, stationed in Ft. Benning, GA.
A lifetime member of Kentucky’s Seven Hills Rod & Gun Club, He served on the board for many years. He enjoyed weekends fishing and coordinating turkey shoots among various activities at the club.
Mal was active in several sports. Early in life he was a member of the C&O Railroad softball team with 5 of his brothers. He played for Ohio Casualty’s softball team and bowling leagues for several years during employment and in retirement. Throughout his life he played musical instruments with his high school band, his family, and around a campfire.
Mal was a deep sea fisherman and enjoyed time on the Ohio Casualty fishing yacht out of Ft. Lauderdale.
In retirement he strengthened his golf game along side of Don Nuxall and several others well into his 80s.
Surviving family are 2 daughters, Malinda (Steve) Napier, Sandy Gilton; 4 grandchildren Damon (Krystle), Maranda (Michael), Angelica (Casey Sr),and Jeremy; 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death are his parents, 6 brothers, and 1 sister.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at Miami Valley Memory Gardens, 1639 East Lytle-Five Points Rd in Centerville, Ohio on Thursday February 6 at 1:00 PM. A celebration of life will follow his service.
Because of Mal’s love of gardening and respect of nature, in lieu of flowers the family asks you consider planting a tree or starting a garden to enjoy during your life on earth.
