Jim was born on August 6, 1934, in Middletown, OH, the son of the late Edward H. Bolen and Mattie (Griggs) Bolen. Jim graduated from Franklin High School in 1952, then went on to travel the world before joining the military. He joined the Army in 1957 and served until honorably discharged in 1959.
Jim is survived by his brother, David Bolen of Sun City Center, Florida; his son, Gregory James Bolen of Springboro, OH; his daughter, Vikki Lynne Hudson (Bolen) and her husband, Scott of Largo, Florida; Greg and Vikki's half sibling, Kayla Martin of Middletown, OH; children of Kayla Martin; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Edward H. Bolen and Mattie Bolen; granddaughter, Julieanna Leigh Bolen; and dogs, Frank and Molly.
James Bolen married his former wife, Katie Tipton (Bailey), the mother of Vikki and Greg of Franklin, Ohio, in 1970, and they were married until 1980.
Jim was a devoted, hard-working, and honest individual. He worked for several newspapers, including The Franklin Chronicle, between the 1960s and 1980s. James also worked for Kings Island Amusement Park for 45 years in the admissions department, retiring at the age of 90, where he was the oldest, longest-living employee there. Jim especially loved his beloved dog, Romy; traveling all over the world, spending time in Europe and Okinawa; celebrating his German heritage at Oktoberfest; and his time working at Kings Island, where he won several awards and made many friends over the years.
