

Born on July 22, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio, John was the son of the late John Semple and Jean Marie (Hughes) Brown. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Susan Barack; his stepfather, Martin Ode; and many beloved pets.
John leaves behind his devoted wife of 43 years Donna (Cifuentes) Brown and his daughters Kristen DeVault, Jessica (Chris) Cable, Alaina (Brandon) Brown, and Michelle Wilson. He was the proud Poppop to Bentley, Jaxon, Jonathan, Sophia, Eli, Ada, Oaklee, Amelia, and C.J.
He is also survived by his sister Ann (Bill) Schwinn; brother‑in‑law Alan Barack; nieces Amy Conklin and Marcy (Mike) Whitten; nephews Tyson (Ruann) Barack and Marc Conklin; and many other cherished nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Centerville High School, Class of 1973, John went on to attend Ohio University and The Ohio State University. He became a licensed optician and later worked at Cox Publishing for 20 years.
John loved fishing, golf, tennis, and any furry creature he encountered. He especially treasured time with his family and grandchildren. Known for his storytelling and his ability to make friends wherever he went, John never met a stranger. He always carried dog treats—and mints for horses. He enjoyed vacations in Ludington, Michigan, and had a soft spot for Hallmark movies.
John’s family will receive friends at Anderson Funeral Home, 40 North Main Street, Springboro, on Monday, August 24, from 5:00–7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Parish, 9579 Yankee Road, Springboro, OH 45066, with Fr. Jerome Bishop presiding. Following Mass, join us for lunch downstairs in the parish hall. At 1:30 there will be a procession from the church to Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 11000 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45249 where John will be laid to rest.
