Kelly Seputis, age 47, of Springboro, Ohio, entered eternal life on Friday, May 16, 2025, at The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute in Columbus, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born Kelly Duncan on August 27, 1977, in Kettering, Ohio, she was the beloved daughter of James and Mary Jo (Meyer) Duncan. A 1995 graduate of Bellbrook High School, Kelly was a talented athlete who played basketball and volleyball and ran track. She continued her education at Wright State University and later dedicated her life to teaching. For 24 years, she taught 6th grade English Language Arts at West Carrollton, touching countless young lives with her passion, kindness, and commitment—until stepping away in October 2024.
On September 2, 2000, Kelly married the love of her life, Garrett Seputis. Together, they built a beautiful life with their two children, Kennedy (born in 2005) and Owen (born in 2007), along with their beloved dog, Becker. Kelly’s world revolved around her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Some of her favorite memories were made skiing the slopes of Utah and Michigan, boating on Norris Lake and Caesar Creek, and vacationing at Hilton Head and Litchfield by the Sea in South Carolina. While her love for her family was unwavering, friendly rivalries—especially OSU vs. Michigan football and Duke vs. UNC basketball—often made theirs a “house divided.”
Kelly carried her passion for sports into adulthood, spending many spirited evenings on the volleyball court. She proudly passed that enthusiasm on to her children, and the family devoted countless weekends to traveling for volleyball and soccer tournaments.
At home, Kelly thrived in the company of loved ones—gathering with family, friends, and neighbors for golf outings, games, fire pits and s’mores, holiday celebrations, and impromptu get-togethers. Her joy for life was evident in every shared laugh and cherished tradition.
Kelly held cherished memories of her childhood in Bellbrook, growing up alongside her parents, her older brother, Chris, and her younger sister, Sarah. The family shared countless road trips, hours of music from homemade mixtapes, and endless days at sporting events—experiences that helped shape Kelly’s lifelong love of sports, a passion she proudly passed on to her sister, Sarah.
Known for her selfless spirit, Kelly always placed the needs of others before her own. As a dedicated teacher, she deeply valued the relationships she built with her students and colleagues. Her compassion, generosity, and sincere care left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her—both in and out of the classroom.
Kelly is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Jo Duncan. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Garrett; daughter, Kennedy Seputis; son, Owen Seputis; brother, Christopher (Courtney) Duncan; sister, Sarah (Chris) Iacovone; nieces and nephews: Loralei, Palmer, Remington, Charles, Elliott, Veronica, Mason, Samantha, and Kassidy; great-nieces and nephews: Sullivan and Eleanor; parents-in-law: Clifford and Carolyn Seputis; and sisters-in-law: Deborah (Doug) Zimmerman and Sandra (Doug) Landwehr. She also leaves behind a circle of treasured friends whose love, support, and enduring friendship brought her great joy and comfort throughout her life.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 40 N. Main St., Springboro, OH. A second visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike, Centerville, OH, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4:00 p.m., with Rev. Brian Phelps as Celebrant and Deacon Chris Rauch assisting.
The Seputis family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the family, friends, and communities who have offered unwavering support, love, and kindness throughout Kelly’s cancer journey since it began in 2020.
