Drake was born on February 19, 1948 in Ashland, KY to Azie and Anna Lee (Fyffe) Meade. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1968 until 1972 and retired from AK Steel in 1998 after dedicating 30 years to “the Mill.” On February 21, 1970, he married Carolyn Joyce Chapman. They raised two daughters, Megan Elizabeth and Autumn Michele.
Drake absolutely adored his wife, Carolyn. Everyone who knew Drake knew the most important thing in his life was his family. Drake loved watching all of his babies play sports or perform in school functions. He was often known as “Mr. Mom” at his daughters cheerleading, softball, or basketball practices.
If you were lucky enough to know Drake well, you knew he also had a love for sports. Drake was a fan of the University of Kentucky, Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr., and the game of golf. He loved playing golf!
Drake was a friend to many. He was constantly running into someone he knew. He was even known to run into his golfing buddies or coworkers from AK Steel while on vacation with his family. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Drake also had a special place in his heart for his fellow veterans. Every time Drake saw a veteran he would shake their hand and thank them for their service.
Drake was preceded in death by his father, Azie Meade, his mother, Anna Lee Fyffe Meade, and two grandchildren, Taylor Michael and Tanner Drake Leight.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Meade, his two daughters, Megan Meade and Autumn Meade, his grandchildren Kaylie Leight (fiancé Gabe), MaKenzie Leight, and Cooper Leight, his sisters Kathy Frasure (Malcolm) and Debbie Jones (John), his brother Brian Meade (Jo), and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
