

Albert “Al” M. Stevens, Sr., 80, of Springfield, died at 12:55 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center. Al was born on August 24, 1925 in Springfield, the son of Charles A. and Mary Trello Stevens. He married Wilma McCray in 1945. He was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Joe’s Slovak Club and Teamster’s Union Local 916 Retirees. He retired as Vice President/Business Agent of Teamster’s Union Local 916. He had also been employed by Quality Dairy and Barker Lubin Ready Mix. He was a honest, hardworking gentleman. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, fishing and boating. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Arthur and Walter Stevens. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Wilma of Springfield; three sons: Nick (wife, Mary) Stevens of Dawson, Michael (wife, Catherine) Stevens of Springfield and Albert, Jr. (wife, Shiryl) Stevens of Tallula; two daughters: Debra (husband, David) Boggs of Springfield and Melissa Stevens of Hiawatha, KS; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two brothers: Jim (wife, Joyce) Stevens and Thomas (wife, Diana) Stevens both of Springfield; two sisters: Jeanette Schumer of Chatham and Anna Graichen of Springfield and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton, Springfield with Father John Nolan, celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family of Albert “Al” M. Stevens, Sr. is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th. St. Springfield.
