

Albert T. “Auggie” DiCenso, 71, of Springfield, passed away at 11:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2002 at his residence. Auggie was born October 8, 1931 the son of Thomas and Bruna Ferri DiCenso in Springfield. He married Doris Gutzwiller in 1960 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. He is a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School, acquired his BS at Western Illinois University, and earned his Masters Degree at Eastern Illinois University. In addition to teaching and coaching at Rochester High School, Benld High School, Gillespie High School, St. Anthony High School in Effingham and Springfield School District #186, Mr. DiCenso was active in the Springfield business community. He worked for the National Electrical Contractors Association and was an employee at the Illinois Department of Human Services. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, where he was active in various church functions, a member of the Holy Name Society, a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. Mr. DiCenso had been inducted into the Western Illinois University Sports Hall of Fame, Illinois High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame. He was active in Youth Baseball for over 25 years as coach and manager. He also served as Vice President and Business Manager for the Springfield Caps baseball team and participated in Springfield’s 55 and older slow-pitch baseball league. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Doris; three sons: Tom (wife, Kathy) DiCenso of Reno, Nevada, Michael(wife, Liz) DiCenso of Cincinnati, Ohio , Jim DiCenso of Springfield; two daughters: Bissi DiCenso and Kristin DiCenso both of Springfield; three grandchildren: Emily and Nicholas DiCenso and Macy DiCenso Helm. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 4-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2002. The visitation will begin with a Rosary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Reverend David S. Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
