

He was born in Chesterfield, IL August 14, 1911 the son of Orson B. and Cora (Holmes) Cornelius. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister. Allan served his country during W.W. II in the United States Army. He was awarded 2 bronze stars and a Good Conduct Medal.
Allan worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service retiring after over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Southern View Chapel for over 60 years. He was a magician in Springfield and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians the Lincoln Ring # 238. He also belonged to a Rock Club in Springfield. He helped to form the Brazil Inland Mission and served as the secretary and as a member of the Board of Directors for over 50 years.
Surviving are his four sons; Allan D. Cornelius Jr. of Holt, FL, David L.(wife Peggy) Cornelius of Danville, IL, Donald W. (wife Neila) Cornelius of West Salem, IL, and Phillip J. Cornelius of Evergreen, CO, 17 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and his brother, Ivan E. Cornelius of Astoria, IL.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch & Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. where visitation will be Friday, April 23, 2010 from 12:30 PM until time of services there at 1:30 PM. Rev. Brian Gilley will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
