

Ann K. Becker, 85, of Springfield, died at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2007 at her home. Ann was born on February 15, 1921 in Thayer, the daughter of John E. and Susan Bednar Karolik. She married Edward R. Becker in 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virden; he preceded her in death in 1980. She graduated from Virden High School. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and a former member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Ann retired as an account technician in 1989 from the State of Illinois Board of Education after twenty-four years of employment. She was a lifetime member of the 1st Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, Democrat Precinct Committeeman for 24 years, past-president of AARP Chapter 195 in Springfield in 1993, past president of the Eagles Auxiliary #437, past president of Retired Eagles Club, Altar and Rosary Society at St. Agnes Parish, P.O.L.K. of A. Club, VFW Auxiliary #775, DAV Auxiliary #15, AFSME Retirees Club, Horizon’s Unlimited, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Legion of Mary Bishop Griffin Assembly #201. She also was a member of Volunteer Services of Central Illinois, Western Catholic Union of Quincy, IL and served as a volunteer at St. Agnes Catholic Grade School Cafeteria. She enjoyed sewing and reading. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: John and Andrew Karolik and two sisters: Susan Roth and Maryann Decatorie. She is survived by one son, Andrew “Andy” (wife, Karen) Becker of Riverton; one daughter, Joan M. (husband, Mike) Reed of Springfield; four grandchildren; Eric Becker (fiance', Kristine Jones), Mark (wife, Tracey) Becker of Riverton, Wendy (husband, Josh) Friedrich of Springfield and Carol (husband, Shannon) Donley of Quincy; two great grandchildren: Justin Becker and Charles Friedrich; one sister, Margaret Whitler of Joliet; one sister-in-law, Wilda Karolik of South Holland, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family welcomes friends to visit from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. David Hoefler officiating. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2007 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, with Rev. David Hoefler celebrant. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N.
