

Ann Elizabeth Pohlman, 35, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away Saturday September 4, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center. Ann was born April 24, 1975 in Springfield, the daughter of Richard and Ruth Shaughnessy Pohlman. Ann was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Joe and Lois Shaughnessy, and her paternal grandparents, Lee and Mary Pohlman. Ann was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Ursuline Academy. She received her Associate of Arts degree from Springfield College in Illinois and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from St. John's School of Nursing. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. John's Hospital for 9 years. Ann was active in the Seven County Kidney Fund where she served as Secretary. In 2002, she was the recipient of the Alumni of the Year award from the Ursuline Academy Alumni Association. Ann was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin to her family. Her caring heart, humble spirit, generosity, and determination will be truly missed, yet never forgotten. She was blessed with a heart of compassion for those in need. Choosing a career in nursing, she was called to provide care from her unique perspective of having been a patient for many years throughout her life. She loved her family and also loved spending time with each one of her 10 nieces and 3 nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She is survived by her parents, Richard and Ruth of Springfield and her siblings and their families, Rick and Vanessa, Taylor, Abby and Mary Pohlman of Springfield, Mike and Tamie, Joseph, Jacob and Jenna Pohlman of Springfield, Lynn and Byron, Nick and Lizzie Yonce of Champaign, Kate and Rick, Emma, Grace and Lucy Malawy of Edwardsville, Mary and Brian, Leah and Katie Stratman of Bloomington and Steve Pohlman of Springfield; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. David J. Hoefler, celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ann Pohlman Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Heartland Credit Union, 2213 W. White Oaks Dr., Springfield, IL 62704. This fund will be used toward a scholarship for Blessed Sacrament students. The family of Ann Pohlman is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
