Ann M. Roth Stockton Vala

Ann M. Roth Stockton Vala, 75 of Springfield died at 4:20 p.m., November 6, 2003 at St. John’s Hospice. Ann was born March 4, 1928 in Springfield, daughter of Lawrence and Marie McSherry Roth. She married Oliver F. Stockton, Jr. and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1966. She married Wesley J. Vala on March 15, 1978. Mrs. Vala owned a dog grooming and breeding business. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Illinois Capital Kennel Club and Lincoln Land Dachshund Club. She enjoyed showing dogs, gardening, crocheting, feeding wild birds and talking to people. She was also preceded in death by one son: Richard O. Stockton, one grandson: Jeremy R. Stockton, parents and one brother: Richard Roth. She is survived by her husband: Wesley J. Vala, two sons: Fred (wife, Penny) Stockton of Springfield and Todd Thomas Stockton of Chatham, three daughters: Pat (husband, Bill) Handly of Springfield, VT, Toni (husband, Bob) McConnel of Yukon, OK and Karen (husband, Lee) Wahl of Springfield, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, three brothers: Raymond (wife, Jean) Roth of Springfield, Paul (wife, Grace) Roth of Joliet and Jerry (wife, Dee) Roth of Marquette, MI., one aunt: Kathryn Jordan of Jacksonville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 3 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, November 10, 2003 St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Kenneth G. Steffen, celebrant. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
