

Anna Marie Gaydos and her husband of 55 years, Edward, of Springfield, passed away within 1 day of each other. Anna Marie passed on her 85th birthday, Friday, January 20, 2017, at St. Johns Hospital and Ed passed Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Carlinville Nursing and Rehab Center. Anna Marie` was born January 20, 1932 in Springfield, Illinois, to John and Anna Sophia Kratchovell Felber. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Robert Paul Felber. Edward Dominic Gaydos was born November 12, 1927 in Virden to George Thomas and Mary Veronica Opremchalk Gaydos. He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Gaydos, brothers Herbert, George Beanie, Ervin, John Guydo, Leonard, Alvin, and sister Leona Bilotta. Anna Marie married Ed on February 18, 1961. She raised her two children, Shelia and Kevin Sullivan in Sacred Heart Parish in Springfield. Later, she and Ed became members of St. Joseph the Worker parish in Chatham. She was an administrative assistant with the Illinois National Guard, retiring in 1984 after 35 years of service. Anna Marie enjoyed gardening and her flowers were envy of the neighborhood. She crocheted beautiful spreads and throws for her children. Anna Marie was a phenomenal baker, delighting both family and friends with her breads, cookies and pastries, especially during the holidays. Even though she shared her recipes, the finished products were never the same without her special touch. Ed enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1946-1948 and served as a military policeman in the aftermath of WWII. He continued his military career with the Illinois National Guard until 1982, retiring as a Sgt. 1st Class. Ed also was a painter in Virden for Murphys for several years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and going to the gambling boat. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Ed had a great sense of humor, especially when he used his gift of animal sounds (like a bird or monkey) in department and grocery stores, much to the amusement of children. They will be greatly missed by their children Shelia Marie (Greg) Smith of Springfield, Kevin Sully (Vanissa) Sullivan of Reno, NV; Stanley (Janie) Gaydos of Nilwood, Sheila Marie Gaydos of Auburn, and Thomas (Betty) Gaydos of Girard; grandchildren, Kelsey Marie Druhot, Amanda Ann Smith, Chad Gaydos, Jake (Beth) Gaydos, Heather (Tom) Kazanski, Crystal Gaydos Creasy, Melissa (Jim) Brown, Christopher (Rachael) Fetter; several great grandchildren; Eds sister Louise Micklaus of Springfield; sisters-in-law, Patricia Felber of Springfield, Marge Felber of Girard, and Mary Ann Gaydos of Chatham Their family will greet friends Thursday, January 26, from 9am until the time of their funeral mass at 10am at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 700 East Spruce Street, Chatham, Illinois, 62629 with Fr. John Nolan, VF, Celebrant. Burial will be at 1pm at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense providing military honors for Ed.
