

Anthony Paul Marquez, Sr., 63, of Springfield, passed away at 11:48 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at St. John's Hospital. Anthony was born June 13, 1947 in Spain, the son of Ralph and Anita Gonzalez Marquez. He married Donna Louise Usery on July 4, 1967 in Nashville, IL. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2007. Anthony graduated high school in Ramsey, NJ and earned his associate's degree. He worked in sales with Prudential after working for many years with the State of ILDepartment of Public Health, where he was very instrumental in developing many Emergency Medical Service programs, including the Helivac Program, Donor Program and the Car Seat Program. He was a member of Westside Christian Church and the American Legion. He was known as a man of integrity who was also very caring, loving and compassionate. He loved being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He coached many baseball and basketball teams for his son. Anthony loved racquetball, basketball and cooking for his family. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Franky. He is survived by his son, Anthony "Tony" Marquez, Jr. of Chatham; daughter, Kendra Marquez Carraro of Springfield, six grandchildren; Cameron, Austyn, Valary, Sydney, Clayton and Grant; aunt, Carmen Fernandez of NY; and niece, Camilla Eckstein of NY. Family will receive friends from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Gary Winkleman officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Air Force and InterVeterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
