

Antonio Caruso, Jr., 70, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away at 3:14 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2002 at St. John’s Hospice. Antonio was born October 30, 1932 in Springfield, the son of Antonio and Adeline Caruso. He married Beatrice Fontecchio August 18, 1951 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Springfield. Mr. Caruso began his employment with City, Water, Light & Power (CWLP) July 1950 and he retired in March 1993 as the Superintendent of Production. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council # 364, International Union of Operating Engineers Local #7, Christ the King Catholic Church and Christ the King Holy Name Society. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Pasquale Caruso. He is survived by his wife Beatrice of Springfield; one son: Joseph (wife, Pamela) Caruso of Auburn; one daughter: Ann (husband, John) Vuylsteke of Springfield; four grandchildren: Valerie and Jack Vuylsteke, Elise and Nicole Caruso; one sister; Gloria (husband, Henry) Meyer of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2002. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2002 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Reverend David Lantz celebrant. Entombment will follow in Oak Ridge Chapel Mausoleum with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Hospital, Hospice Program, 900 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702.
