

Ardell was born on November 22, 1921, in Carbondale, IL the son of Elijah and Ella (Brooks) Davis.
He graduated from Wendell Phillips High School and attended Herzl Junior College in Chicago. Ardell proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, though he often remarked that he could not swim. He lived much of his life in Chicago, moving to Springfield in 2007 to be closer to family. He enjoyed traveling but only road trips in his favorite car, a Cadillac, because he did not fly or like water. Most importantly, Ardell loved spending time with his family and sharing the family’s history with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ivy; companion, Barbara Brison; children, Janet, Johnny, and Judy; grandson, Troy; brothers, John, Maurice, Unis, and Wardell; and sisters, Virginia and Eugie.
Ardell is survived by his son, Jerome; daughter, Sheila; grandchildren, Joanna, Kyle, Terrell, John and Janet; nephew and caretaker, Damion L. Davis; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a large extended family.
Graveside Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
