Arlene A. Flynn

Arlene A. Flynn, 69, of Springfield, died at 12:35 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at St. John's Hospital. Arlene was born October 20, 1941 in Royalton, IL, the daughter of August and Maybelle Raboin Morosi. She married Michael R. Flynn on July 29, 1967 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Springfield; he preceded her in death on February 18, 2005. Arlene was a graduate of Lanphier High School and SIU Carbondale. She taught at Ridgely School from 1963-1968, Wanless School from 1969-1973, Palmer School from 1973-1974 and Hazel Dell School from 1974 until her retirement in 1999 after 36 years of teaching. Arlene was a member of the K of C Auxiliary Club, Vice President of Springfield Education Association, Camp COCO chairperson for District 186, and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She had been nominated for teacher of the year in the early 90's. Arlene enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, taking cruises, playing cards, she was a sports lover and a fan of the Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals, but her greatest joy in life were her grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two daughters, Jillane Flynn and Kerri (husband, Andrew) Landgrebe, both of Springfield; four grandchildren, Alyssa and Abigail Flynn and Nicholas and Zachary Landgrebe, all of Springfield; one brother, Gene (wife, Patricia) Morosi of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield, with Rev. Thomas Donovan, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Camp COCO, SIU Foundation, P.O.
