

Born July 18, 1944, daughter of Linal Morris Sharp and Bertha Imogene Bates Sharp, in Doniphan, Missouri. She is preceded in death by husband Alfred H. Braner, son Timothy W. Nudo, stepsons, Robert H. Braner and Michael Braner, her mother, Imogene Sharp, brother, R. Dwayne Sharp, sisters Carolyn J. Jacobs, M. JoAnn Pulizos, and Jean Sharp-Heineman; and one grandchild, Shawn Braner. She is survived by her two sons, James R. Braner (wife Michelle) and Derek L. Guernsey (wife Heidi) both of Pleasant Plains; three stepchildren, Steve Braner of Las Vegas, NV; Kathryn Reiser (husband John) and Vickie Bryant (husband Rick) both of New Berlin, IL. One sister, Lynda F. Sharp-Davis of Springfield, IL; sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara graduated from Lanphier High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College. She worked for the Illinois State Board of Education for over 30 years and received the Sta\ Recognition Award for Employee of the Year in 1994. She retired in 1998. She was also a realtor and was elected Assessor for Gardner Township in 1989 and served 16 years, retiring in 2005, and served as a Sangamon County Precinct Committeeman for a few years. She also served as an alternate on the Sangamon County Zoning Board of Appeals from 2002-2007.
She was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW Auxiliaries and a member of the National Society – Daughters of Colonial Wars, Daughters of American Revolutionary War (DAR) and Daughters of the War of 1812. She was also a member of the First Families of Tennessee and First Families of Iron County Missouri. Her hobby was Genealogy. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society with her sister JoAnn for several years.
A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Daughters of American Revolutionary War (DAR) www.dar.org.
