Barb was born July 13, 1961, in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Charles Edwin Westphal and Kathleen Phyliss Kennedy Westphal Selz.
Barb earned an undergraduate degree in education from Florida Atlantic University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts. For years, she was a dedicated elementary school teacher who loved her students. Barb taught in Delray Beach, FL, the Springfield, MA area, and also on Cape Cod, MA. She was active in her local church throughout her life. Barb was a talented artist who loved to paint, sew and craft. She loved beaches, swimming and golfing in the snow. Barb loved spending time hiking with her dog. She always had a smile on her face and a giggle to her voice. She was a ray of sunshine who will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William MacDonald Dyson.
Barb is survived by her sons, Robert (Sarah) Marti and Daniel Marti; granddaughter, Madelyn Marti; and siblings, Linda Moskalski, Chuck (Mary) Westphal, and Stanley Westphal.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield, IL. A funeral ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be held following the funeral ceremony at Farmers Point Cemetery, Menard County, IL.
