Bernadine Dombroski, 70, of Springfield, died at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at her residence. Bernadine was born on November 28, 1951, in Springfield, the daughter of Joseph and Sylvia Petrokas Chepulis. She married Peter Dombroski on October 28, 1978, at St. Aloysius.
Bernadine graduated from Ursuline Academy, Springfield College, and Chicago’s Conservatory of Music. She had a great time with fellow musicians, including David Jackson and Mary Jane Caruso. After graduating, she taught at Elmwood and was responsible for the music classes and choir. After a couple of years, they moved to Springfield, and she taught at Washington Middle School.
Pete and Bern were lucky enough after 10 years of marriage to have Katie and Kyle. Bern’s greatest wish to become a mom was fulfilled and what a mom she became. She was active with the kids in their sports, music, and education. Bern took great joy in their accomplishments and successes in school and sports. She was active in sports as well with SRD volleyball and softball leagues. Bern was a devoted daughter
who helped with the family business (Champion Garage) when her mom needed her. She made an effort to keep the family together with traditions of having Thanksgiving and Christmas after her mom passed.
Bern had a passion for growing flowers, starting them from seed and supplying the family with plants. She could never discard a seedling when transplanting, therefore there were plenty of plants for everyone. Bern was the kindest, sweetest person you could ever meet and will be missed by everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Pete Dombroski of Springfield; one son, Kyle (Danielle Castrence) Dombroski of Los Angeles, CA; one daughter, Katherine (husband, Bryce) Callighan of St. Louis, MO; and four siblings, Mary Chepulis, Tricia (Larry) Wade, Joseph (Sharron) Chepulis and John (Kathy) Chepulis; as well as many nieces and nephews.
