

Bernice M. (Niedbal) Vaughn, 83, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2009 at Springfield Terrace. Bernice was born on May 17, 1925 in Springfield, the daughter of Carl C. and Josephine A. McKee Niedbal. Prior to the birth of her children and her role as homemaker, Bernice had worked for Franklin Life Insurance and Sangamo Electric. Bernice was an artist who also loved poetry, but most of all, she loved her children. Preceding Bernice in death are her parents and two sisters, Rose Alice Peyser and Virginia Orr. She is survived by her children, Robert Alan (wife, Veda) Vaughn of Chatham, Thomas D. Vaughn of Springfield, Nancy L. (husband, Hank) Leaverton of Naples, FL, Mary "Jody" (husband, Pat) Jackson of Springfield, and Michelle (husband, Rick) Norris of Springfield; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; her sisters, Grace Carney of Santa Rosa, CA and Norma Williams of Altamonte Springs, FL; in addition to several nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Family will receive friends for a memorial gathering from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Private family graveside ceremonies will be held at a later date.
