

Bertha P. Roy, 80 of Springfield, died at 10:29 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2004 at St. John’s Hospital. Bertha was born December 5, 1923 in Springfield, the daughter of Anton and Louise Peternell Kuznik. She married Neal Ralph Roy and he preceded her in death on April 30, 1973. Bertha was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, member and current President of AFSCME Subchapter 86, member and Treasurer of Interveterans Council of Sangamon County, member and Treasurer of AmVets Post 94, member and Treasurer of Women’s Overseas Service League, Secretary of the Navy Waves. She was a WWII US Navy Veteran where she also received her nurses training. Bertha retired from the State of IL Department of Revenue and also J. C. Penneys. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter: Suzanne Roy, six sisters: Delores Campbell, Marie Speckert, Louise Hagenbaugh, Anna McBride, Margie Cassidy, Agnes Kuznik, four brothers: James, John, Joey and Charles Kuznik She is survived by her son: David N. (wife, Sandra) Roy of Fountain Hills, AZ., granddaughter: Christina (husband, Jarod) Lombardi of Fountain Hills, AZ, one sister: Francis VanderSteen of Springfield, two brothers: Robert (wife, Margaret) Kuznik of Vacaville, CA and Anton Kuznik, Jr. of Vallejo, CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m.on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Kirlin - Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
