

She was born on March 19, 1952, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of O.B. and Betty (Horrell) Henry.
Betsy graduated from Glenwood High School in 1970 and earned her bachelor’s degree from Lincoln Land Community College/Sangamon State in 1975. She went on to work with Ball Chatham School District for 20 years as a pre-K educator, and later as a para educator for individual students. Betsy was a 21-year breast cancer survivor and member of Chapter CA PEO for 54 years, as well as Hope Church, where she was part of the Pals Program (People Assisting Little Souls) and the Buddy Break Program. She enjoyed gardening, DIY projects, talking on the phone with friends, and being around children. Betsy was known as loving, caring, social, and “grandma” to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Stacy; and nephew, Keith.
Betsy is survived by her son, Ryan (Janelle) Hermes of East Lansing, MI; grandchildren, Julia Marie, Erin Elizabeth, and Joanna Lynn; brother, Bob Henry of Auburn; and cousin, Steve Jones of Kokomo, IN.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the ceremony at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Beth Yokley officiating.
Inurnment with take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery, at a later date.
