Betty was born on November 23, 1936, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Roy and Goldie (Collins) McQuern. She married Jesse R. Dyer on February 4, 1961, at Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2019.
Betty graduated from Springfield High School and spent over 80 years in Springfield. She had various jobs in the financial industry, and she was a dedicated and amazing homemaker. Betty was a life member of the VFW Post #540 Auxiliary in Dixon and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, slots, traveling, and watching the Game Show Network.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Dyer; parents; and two brothers, Roy and William McQuern.
She is survived by daughters, Debra (John) Henton, Kathy (Bob) O’Brien, Pam Ratterman, and Patsy Shaffer, all of Springfield, IL, and Tinia (Anthony) Kulavic, of Dixon, IL; son, Edward Keys, of Springfield, IL; brothers, Jim (Violet) McQuern, of Springfield, IL, and Charlie (Sandy) McQuern, of Petersburg, IL; twelve grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her two beloved dogs.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, with Fr. Kevin Laughery officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
