Betty E. Schmittler

Betty was born January 1, 1933, in Springfield, the daughter of James and Elizabeth “Betty” Rester Trimble. She married Samuel Schmittler on December 31, 1960; he preceded her in death on November 11, 1982.

Betty retired from the Secretary of State in 2002 after 22 years of service and she worked part-time for Kelly Services since 2003. She was known to many as “BS,” meaning Beautiful Sunshine. Betty was a member of East View Baptist Church, Flower City Chapter #152, and Order of the Eastern Star #436.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Robert C. Armstrong.

She is survived by her son, Samuel (wife, Melissa) of Greenview; daughter, Barbara Armstrong Hall (partner, Tim Cunningham) of Springfield; five grandchildren, Eric (wife, Rachael) Armstrong of KY, Shelagh Smith of KY, Justin (wife, Nicole) Lowry of OK, Kayla (husband, Brad) Clemence of MN, and Chelsey (husband, Brandon) Howell of CO; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

A private family graveside ceremony will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Friday, January 15, 2021, with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating.
