Betty M. Smith

Betty was born on September 29, 1927, in Garden City, MO, the daughter of Frank and Elsie (Laughlin) Poor. She married Lester Gilbert Smith on February 21, 1948; he preceded her in death on March 28, 2018, after 70 years of marriage.

Betty was a graduate of New Berlin High School. She worked in farming and as a bookkeeper for Banker’s 1st National.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Harper; twin grandsons, Scott and Allen Smith; her parents; brothers, Bob and Bill; and sisters, Hazel, Ruth, Arlene, June, and Peggy.

She is survived by her son, Michael (wife, Marcia) Smith of Chatham; two grandchildren, Adam (wife, Kim) Smith of Mapleton and Kara (husband, Zach) Pierson of Chatham; three great-grandchildren, Addison Smith, Savannah Smith and Stella Grace Pierson; and sister, Mary Horn of Arizona.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Chatham, 8855 State Rt. 4, Chatham. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Auburn Cemetery.
