Betty Jo Speer

Betty Jo Speer, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Betty was born April 17, 1930 in Bloomington, IN, the daughter of Forrest and Hazel Hoy Patterson. She married Bob Speer on August 27, 1948 in Bloomington, IN. He preceded her in death in 2001. Betty was a homemaker and working partner in several of her husbands restaurants. She was a member of the Springfield Elks Lodge Ladies #158, golf leagues, and bowling leagues. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, golfing, and spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids, and the crew at Louies. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two sons, Rick (Pam) Speer of Springfield and Brad Speer of Savannah, GA; daughter, Valerie (David) Hunter of Springfield; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Steve Patterson of Bloomington, IN; sister, Linda (George) McClain of Huntington, WV; and friends at Hickory Glen Senior Living. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Memorial Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Pastor Dan Roseberry officiating. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Elks Lodge Ladies #158, 409 East Lake Shore Drive, Springfield, IL 62712, or to a charity of the donors choice.
