Betty M. Werner

Betty M. Werner, 82, of Springfield, passed away at home under hospice care, surrounded by her loving family at 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. She was born to Florence (Unger) and Maurice Werner on May 29, 1931. They preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Charles M. Werner, William E. Werner, and Robert F. Werner. She is survived by her loving sister, Catherine M. Werner, who devoted her life to caring for Betty after a terrible car accident in 1983, which left her hospitalized for 7 months. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty Ann Werner and Sharon Werner; and two cousins, five nieces, and three nephews, Colleen (Wes) Pierceall, Cheryl (David) Bice, William Werner, Chuck (Donna) Werner, Mary Beth (Barry) Carter, Kathy (Garrett) Deakin, Michael (Terri) Werner, and Carol Werner; and her closest friend, Bonnie Meneghetti. Betty was a lifelong member of St. Cabrini Church, where she was a Minister of Praise and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She retired from Illinois Bell Telephone in 1968 and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was an avid Cardinal fan, loved to sing and spend time with her family. She graduated from Springfield High School and attended Brown's Business College. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer services at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2013 at St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield with Rev. Richard Chiola, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice or St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield, IL 62702.
