She was born Jan. 29, 1927 the daughter of Justin and Ruby Jacobs Sawyer. She was a graduate of Springfield High School and Browns Business College.
Bettye was known for her sharp sense of humor, her love of animals, and taste for chocolate. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the Progressive Mine Workers and various other businesses. She was devoted to her cat, Sweetie Pie.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as other extended family. .
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014 in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Ted Washburn will officiate.
