

Beverly �Scotty� Bruce, 87, of Springfield, formerly of Virden, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Illinois Veteran�s Home in Quincy. He was born March 2, 1928 in Chicago. Scotty married Ednamae Riley on June 9, 1956. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Bruce and daughter-in-law, Patty Bruce. He served in the US Marine Corps, 1st Division Recon Company in Korea, 1950-1953. Scotty was a member of the American Legion Post 386, of Virden, Northenders� VFW, a Life Member of the National Education Association, and Macoupin Retired Teachers� Association. He loved woodworking and was a charter member of the black powder musket club with the Antioch Mountain Boys. Mr. Bruce was a history and geography teacher for Virden Junior High School for 37 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Ednamae; sons, David (Beverly) Bruce of Springfield and Thomas �TJ� Bruce of Riverton; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Charlie) Daniels, David Bruce, JR, Morgan Bruce, Jack Bruce, Christopher Bruce, Jennifer (Joshua) Woodruff, and Michael (Jamie) Smith and several great grandchildren. His family will greet friends from 4-7pm, Friday, October 16 at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Visitation will also be held from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am, Saturday, October 17, at Hope Presbyterian Church, 2211 Wabash Ave, Springfield, IL, 62704, with Pastor Charles Goodman officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham after services. Memorial contributions may be made to The Illinois Veteran�s Home of Quincy, 1707 North 12th Street, Quincy, IL, 62301. Burial of his urn will be at Longpoint Cemetery in Niantic at a later date. Staab Polk Memorial Home is serving the Bruce family.
