

Caitlin Elizabeth Smith, 23, of Springfield, passed away on October 12, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born on June 29, 1998 in Springfield to surviving parents Jeffrey J. and Rachelle A. Smith at St. John’s Hospital.
Caitlin also survived by her brother, Zachary Smith of Springfield; Grandparents William and Pamela Blake of Athens and Thomas and Patricia Smith of Springfield. She is also survived by her Godfather-Uncle Robert Morrisette of Ft. Myers, FL, a multitude of cousins, extended family, and her beloved dog Gotti Smith.
Caitlin attended PreK-8th at Little Flower Catholic School, and graduated from Southeast High School as part of the Class of 2016. Caitlin was a gifted athlete all throughout her life: basketball, volleyball, and most importantly to her- softball, the passion that engulfed her entire heart and brought her the most joy. She began her softball career at six years old and continued playing throughout her high school years as a starting pitcher. With Caitlin’s infectious positive attitude and likable personality, she was the heart of her teams and spent her off-time mentoring many younger softball pitchers. She was also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys football fan, had an unmatched love for music, and was an avid sketch artist.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on October 21, 2021 at Catholic Church of the Little Flower, 800 Adlai Stevenson Drive, Springfield, IL. The family will greet friends from 9:30am until the time of the service at church. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
