Carol L. Hurley

Carol Lynn (Kriener) Hurley died peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Springfield Suites. Carol was born to Gwen (Betcher) and Harry Kriener in Springfield on December 21, 1937. She had five younger brothers, all of whom are deceased: Harry Jr. "Speed," Arnold "Sam," Paul, Jon, and Billy Kriener.

She graduated from Springfield High School and completed her R.N. training at St. John’s School of Nursing in 1959. She dedicated herself to helping others by working at Saint John’s Hospital as a nurse for 30 years, often continuing to follow the health and welfare of her patients long after they returned home.

In 1960, she married John T. Hurley. He preceded her in death in 2015. They had three children, Kathleen (Rick Blackmer), Eileen (Mark Waninger), and Patrick (Teresa Shaw). She was a loving wife and mother and will be missed by all of those whose lives she touched, especially her family. She is survived by her children; one grandson, Sean Liam Blackmer; and several nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be held at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. with Father Ryan Kehoe officiating.

The funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield, on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
