

Carol Robert �Sharkey� Wells, 84, of Chatham, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 at St. John�s Hospital. He was born in Springfield, IL on March 4, 1927, the son of Avery and Louise Kornack Wells. He married Belva Syson on April 25, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers, Franklin Wells and Ronald Wells. Mr. Wells is survived by his sons Robert (Sharon) Wells of Springfield; Ronald Wells of Chatham; Donald (Yong) Wells of Denver, CO; brother Loren (Judy) Wells of Springfield; sister-in-law Elsie Wells; grandchildren Joseph Wells of Denver, CO; Jason Wells of Chatham; Andy, Eric and Ryan Wells of Springfield and Danny Wells of Hamilton, IL; Connie (John) Lee of Denver, CO; Elizabeth Wells of Anchorage, AK; great grandchildren Brittany, Danare, Brianna, Kaydnce, Tristan, Colin, Natalie, Karli and Cecilia. Mr. Wells served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. A resident of Chatham for over 50 years, he was a farmer, worked for Castor Superfoods for twelve years and retired from MJ Kellner after 15 years. He was also site manager at Daily Bread in Chatham for several years. Mr. Wells belonged to the Chatham VFW Post 4763, Chatham American Legion Post 759 and AMVETS. Mr. Wells had the distinct honor of being the first recipient of the Senior Citizen of the Year Award in Chatham. He was a resident of Heritage Manor for the past six years; President of the Senior Council for four years. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 26, from 4-7PM at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Funeral Services will begin at 9:30AM on Thursday, October 27 at Staab Polk Memorial Home, with Rev. Juli Lejman-Guy officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with the InterVeterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County providing military honors.
