

Carolyn L. Hartley, 79, of Chatham, passed away at 4:32 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. Carolyn was born October 30, 1939 in Martinsville, the daughter of Chester and Alta May (Stricker) Cook. She married R. Keith Hartley on June 10, 1962 in Martinsville. Carolyn earned a masters degree in education from Western Illinois University, and a bachelors degree from Eastern Illinois University. She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1957. She worked as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher at Ball-Chatham Elementary school until she retired in 1994 after 29 years. She was a member of First Christian Church and Prairie Quilting Group. She loved to quilt. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Becky S. Hartley; sisters, Bettie Blair and Shirley Dalrymple; and brother, Vernon Cook. She is survived by her husband, R. Keith Hartley of Chatham; son, Bryon (Denise) Hartley of Dawson; two grandchildren, Robby Hartley of Springfield and Andy Hartley of Divernon; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at First Christian Church, 700 South 6th Street, Springfield. Memorial Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at First Christian Church, with Rev. Rick Irwin officiating.
