Catherine Mary "Cathy" Long

She was born in Decatur, IL Jan. 1, 1949 the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Donovan) Schultz. She married Roger Long in 1972and together they had two children Mari Beth and David. They were married for 16 years. Her parents preceded her in death.

Cathy graduated from St. Teresa High School in Decatur, IL in 1966 and then earned her B.S. in Education from Eastern Illinois University and spent her career as a teacher with St. Aloysius School, and then with Springfield School District 186, at Laketown and Hazel Dell School’s. Her expertise was in reading, grades 1-5, until her retirement in 2004. She received a Golden Apple Award for her spirit and dedication to her profession and the students. Her passion for teaching continued after retirement. She returned to the classroom at Lawrence Adult Center part time. All in all, her most joy was found in her grandson Ryan. She would travel to Denver as often as she could and when not with him, spent many hours with him on facetime. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Mari Beth (Mark) Plummer of Denver, CO, her son, David Long of Springfield, OR, her beloved grandson, Ryan Plummer, her brother Martin (wife Susana) Schultz of Greenville, NC, her two sisters, Patricia “Patty” (husband Ken) Crawford of Teutopolis, IL and Elizabeth “Betsy” Day of Lerna, IL. There are several nieces and nephews.

Cremation Rites will be accorded prior to services by Bisch Crematory.

Memorial Gathering: The family will received friends at the Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL from 5-7 pm Friday, Feb. 10, 2017.

Memorial Service: A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Contact Ministries or the Animal Protective League.
