Catherine Virginia Soy

Catherine "Virginia" Soy, 90, of Portsmouth, VA, formerly of Springfield, died at 8:20 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 at her residence. Virginia was born March 5, 1923 in Berwyn, the daughter of Francis and Marcella Kase McKennedy. She married George Francis Soy and he preceded her in death. Virginia was a graduate of St. Patrick's Elementary School and a 1942 graduate of Feitshans High School. She worked as a telephone operator and was a proud housewife. Virginia enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Daniel and Frankie McKennedy; one sister, Mary McKennedy; and one aunt, Frances McKennedy. She is survived by three daughters, Catherine M. Rhodes and Frances E. O'Brien, both of San Francisco, CA and Marcella (husband, Bill) Hopper of Portsmouth, VA; one son, George F. McKennedy; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Marcella McKennedy of Springfield and George McKennedy of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1720 S. Grand Ave. E, Springfield, with Rev. Zachary Edgar celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
