She was born on January 14, 1959, to Howard and Catherine (Evers) Sandidge. She was the youngest of three children with two older brothers, James, and Phillip. She was a 1977 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Cathy married the love of her life, Bruce, on January 21, 1978. Cathy met Bruce when she was just 17 years old. She’s always called Bruce her ‘soulmate’. They truly shared a love like no other. Bruce and Cathy had three children and raised them in a loving home in Pittsfield, Illinois. She worked in the Pike County States Attorney’s Office as the Victim-Witness Coordinator for many years, leaving only so she and Bruce could move to Springfield, Illinois to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Cathy made it a point to live life to the fullest. She enjoyed taking walks and soaking in the fresh air. One of her favorite places to walk was Lincoln Memorial Garden in Springfield. Kayaking was another favorite, especially finding hidden little spots along the lake and Sugar Creek and listening to the sounds of nature. Being outdoors was something she loved. It reminded Cathy of her childhood growing up on the lake. The sound of waves always brought back such wonderful memories. Cathy liked the wind in her hair, whether it was riding with Bruce on their Harley or in their Mustang convertible. More than anything, Cathy simply enjoyed being with her family. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were her world. Nothing made her happier than having everyone together. She lived for her family. Basketball games, Cub Scout campouts, dance recitals, a day of baseball or soccer, ‘Nene’ wouldn’t miss being there for her grandkids. What a big influence she was in their lives. Cathy had the positivity, strength, wisdom, and kindness most hope for. Genuinely such a sweet person, Cathy was rarely caught without a smile on her face. She was a ray of sunshine. We will miss her more than words could ever express.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cathy is survived by her husband Bruce, children Matt Ervin, Dana (Brad) Turasky, Courtney Kershaw, four grandchildren Kaden Kershaw, Vincent Turasky, Kendall Bednarko, and Spencer Turasky, brothers James (Jacky) Sandidge, Phillip (Georgia) Sandidge, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her cat who she had a special bond with, Ryno.
