

He was born in Peoria on December 1, 1939, the son of Lorraine DeSouza. Charlie married Marilou Doty in Dawson on April 1, 1960.
Charlie was known to be very hardworking to provide for his loved ones. He worked various jobs- he started his career with Bernard Bertsche Farms in Buffalo Hart, IL, where he met his loving wife, Marilou. Charlie then went on to work for Howard Young Trucking in Lanesville before he owned and operated his own trucking business. Finally, he drove for Truck Centers in Springfield. Charlie was a faithful member of Fountain of Life United Methodist Church in Buffalo. He also achieved the Million Mile Club and was a member of American Truck Historical Society. Charlie was an avid collector of coins and model trains and trucks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilou; mother, Lorraine; and sister, Elizabeth.
Charlie is survived by his son, Rian (Toni) Flexter of Illiopolis; daughter, Charlisa (Jim) Woodward; grandchildren, Jessica Hoyt, Brandy Flexter, Danielle Woodward, Lea Woodward, Casey Pratt, and Kim (Jamie) Jones; great-grandchildren, McKenna, Savannah, Jaxtyn, Blaire, Jett, Charleigh, Ethan, and Connor; siblings, Bobbie (Tim) Sexton of Dawson, Linda (Larry) Marcy of Springfield, and Freida (Jim) Woolery of Pheonix, AZ; and nieces, Lori Burk and Janeen Way.
The family will host a burial at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Service and luncheon will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Fountain of Life Church, 302 South St., Buffalo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fountain of Life Church in Buffalo, IL, or American Truck Historical Society, 2073 N. 600 E. Rd., Edinburg, IL, in care of Mark Breidenbaugh.
