

Charles E. “Charlie” Kirchgesner, 76, of Petersburg, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Menard Convalesant Center in Petersburg. He was born February 25, 1926 the son of John G. and Elizabeth Harbauer Kirchgesner in Springfield. He married Frances J. Unland and she preceded him in death on August 27, 1975. He then married Kathryn Colby. Charlie was a retired Plumbing Inspector for the City of Springfield. He was a member of the Rod & Reel Club and Plumber& Steamfitters Union Local 137. He was a Navy veteran of World War II where he was an Aviation Radioman 3rd Class. He was Catholic and participated in various church activities. He was also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by a daughter: Elizabeth “Beth” Kirchgesner of Petersburg; sister; Sr. Angela Kirchgesner, OSU of Springfield; two brothers: John (wife, Alberta) Kirchgesner and Dick (wife, Joann) Kirchgesner both of Springfield; several nieces and nephews, and special friend- Kathryn Colby Kirchgesner. Friends may call from 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 South 6th Street in Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m.Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Reverend Robert Becker Celebrant.
