

Charlotte R. Berry, 99, of Springfield, passed away at 7:53 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield. Charlotte was born October 10, 1916 to the late Carl and Martha Valentine Logan in Decatur, IL. She married William J. Berry on January 18, 1953 in Springfield. He preceded her in death. She graduated from Springfield High School and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She worked for the Sangamon County Department of Public Health for 35 years. Charlotte was a member of AARP, Eastside Seniors, and was the vice president of Springfield Urban League Guild. She was very independent, reliable, and had a strong work ethic. Charlotte loved volunteering and playing bingo. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Katherine Logan and Georgia Blackledge; and her brother, Wilfred Logan. Charlotte is survived by her Sister, Dorothy J. (Inman, deceased) Foster of Springfield; her brother, Robert Logan of Chicago; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Union Baptist Church, 1405 E. Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62703. Funeral ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. T. Ray McJunkins, officiant. Burial will be held after the ceremony at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
