

Chauncey was born in Chicago on November 14, 1945, the son of Chauncey C. and Ann Louise MacKenzie Maher, Jr., M.D. He married Kathleen Heck in Elizabeth, NJ on March 18, 1972.
Chauncey graduated from Springfield High School in 1963. He went on to complete his undergraduate degree at Wabash College where he was a pitcher on the baseball team. Chauncey then attended medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, MO where he also served as chief resident at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He went on to become an award winning psychiatrist at his practice, Lofft, Demars, & Maher, in Washington, D.C. where he practiced for more than 20 years. He then returned to Springfield to operate his private practice, Maher Psychiatric Group. Chauncey also worked for McFarland Mental Health Center and Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
He was a member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, Sangamo Club, Island Bay Yacht Club, Illini Country Club, and was a charter member of Avenel Golf Club in Potomac, MD. Chauncey was an avid golfer and grew award winning daffodils. Later in life, he was an excellent cook, loved spending time at Lake Springfield, and drinking good wine with friends and family.
Chauncey was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen H. Maher of Springfield; daughter, Emily (husband, Alex) Rabin of Chatham; sons, Chauncey (wife, Erin) C. Maher, IV of Carlisle, PA, Elliot Maher of Normal and Sean Maher of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Jake and Reese Rabin and Chauncey C. Maher, V; brothers, Peter Maher of Carbondale and Benjamin Maher of Honolulu, HI; sisters, Nancy Wilson and Mary Lindquist, both of Portland, OR; uncle, David (wife, Carlotta) Maher of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Ave. West, Springfield, IL 62704, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
