Clarence "Sonny" E. Currie, Jr.

Sonny was born on November 30, 1933, in Taylor Springs, IL, the son of Clarence Edgar Currie, Sr. and Delta Cole Currie. He married Lorita A. Money on May 2, 1953, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on May 16, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Sonia Robertson.

Sonny was a graduate of Feitshans High School. He served in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic. He retired from Fiat Allis after 30 years, where he served as a Union Steward, and later worked for Little Flower School as a maintenance man. He and his wife, Rita, co-owned the Skateland Roller Rinks in the late 70s through the mid- 80s. Sonny was a former member of the Roller-Skating Rinks of America. He proudly built their family home and owned a craft business with his wife. Sonny could fix anything. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, enjoyed working on cars, gardening, and was known for his delicious fudge.

He is survived by his two sons, Mark A. (wife, Laura) Currie of Tampa, FL and Michael A. (wife, Tennille) Currie of Springfield; four grandchildren, Blake (wife, Ashley), Megan (fiancé, Brandon), Alyssa, and Alayna Currie; two great-grandchildren, Waylon and Cash Currie; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
