

Cletus Edward Batten, 84, of Springfield, passed away at 8:06 a.m., Monday, April 9, 2001 at his residence. Cletus was born May 18, 1918 the son of John W. and Annabell Zorn Batten in Chicago. Mr. Batten was a graduate of Lamont High School. He served in the Army in the Phillipines during WWII. He worked as a Guard for U.S. Steel in Joliet and Gary, IN. He was a very active member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church where he also lead the rosary for the church. Mr. Batten was also a die hard Chicago Cubs Fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Charles and George Batten. He is survived by three brothers: William Batten of Downers Grove, Robert (wife, Dorothy) Batten of New Port Richie, FL, Raymond (wife, Betty) of Weslace, TX; three sisters: Sr Thomas Batten O.S.U. of Alton, Barbara (husband, Sam) Ensalaco of New Port Richie, FL, Rosemary (husband, Robert) Wilkin of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at St. Cabrini Catholic Church from 5:45-6:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001. Funeral Mass will begin at 7:00 p.m.. Wednesday, April 11, 2001 with Reverend Rodney Schwartz celebrant. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001 at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family of Cletus Edward Batten is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
