

Dan L. Courier, 79, of Springfield, formerly of New Berlin, died at 2:53 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at his residence. Dan was born on October 13, 1926 in Prentice, the son of Ray Edward and Ethel Ross Courier. He married Alberta Tolliver on December 6, 1945 at Berlin Christian Church. He attended New Berlin High School and was a member of the New Berlin community for forty-five years. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. While serving in the U.S. Navy he received the WWII Victory Medal, the American Area Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal. He worked as a Highway Maintenance worker for twenty years with the Sangamon County Highway Department, retiring in 1989. Dan also owned and operated Courier Construction for twenty years. In 1956 he became a member of the Masonic Lodge in Loami and was also a member of the American Legion #279 in Jacksonville. He enjoyed carpentry and cabinet making. Dan will be remembered as a very kind and caring family man. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Ray Courier and one sister: Sally Epple. He is survived by his wife Alberta Courier of Springfield; two sons: Dan D. (wife, Barb) of Springfield and Garry Courier of Elkhart, IN; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother: Glen Courier of Denver, CO, one half-sister: Nancy Heidel of St. Petersburg, FL and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2006 at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, 714 East Gibson St., New Berlin. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, with Pastor Charles Duggins officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Plains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Berlin Christian Church, 113 E. 1st St., New Berlin, IL 62670. The family of Daniel L.
