

Dan was born February 20, 1974, in Fremont, CA, the son of Larry D. and Barbara Carter. He married Anne Seraphia Campbell on October 19, 2002, in Chatham, IL.
Dan graduated from Du Quoin High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from SIU Carbondale in Criminal Justice. He was employed with the Illinois State Police for 24 years. Dan was a member of First United Methodist Church in Du Quoin, St. Joseph the Worker in Chatham, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was outgoing and lived life to the fullest, was creative, and treasured the friendships he made throughout the years. Dan enjoyed tropical vacations with his wife and daughters, yoga, and riding motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Dan is survived by his wife, Anne Carter of Springfield; daughters, Jillian and Addison Carter; father, Larry Carter of Thayer; siblings, David (Charise) Carter of Pawnee and Kerry (Stacy) Maguire of Belleville; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved dogs, Princess Fiona, Stella, and Lola.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Ceremony and Gathering: 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Prairie View Reception Center, 8865 State Route 4, Chatham, IL with Rev. Donald Pritchard, IL State Police Chaplain, officiating. A Memorial Gathering will follow until 6:00 p.m. The Illinois State Police will hold a First Responder walk-through at 5:00 p.m. Family and friends unable to attend may stream the ceremony HERE and the walkthrough HERE.
