Born on June 11, 1948 in Jacksonville, IL. Dan was the son of Wilbur and Winifred Kinsell. He grew up in Jacksonville, IL, and graduated from Jacksonville High School.
He joined the United States Navy in 1968. where he spent 1.5 years aboard the USS Forrestal in the Mediterranean as a radioman. In 1973 he joined his father at Chapin Cylinder Head where he spent 27 years running the business. He often talked about how much he loved his work there and the people he worked alongside.
Known for his quick wit, infectious humor, and legendary sweet tooth, Dan never missed an opportunity to make others laugh. He loved duck hunting, traveling, and telling jokes—but his greatest joy was time spent with his family, especially making his children laugh.
One of Dan’s proudest, and most frequently retold accomplishments, was winning “biggest fish” on a cruise after catching a massive blue marlin. While rumors circulated that he may have bribed the crew to secure the victory, Dan denied the accusation wholeheartedly and consistently… right up until the end.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Wanda; his children Matthew (Mary Elizabeth) Kinsell of Edwardsville, Illinois, Scott (Tiffany) Kinsell of Springfield, Illinois, and Emily (Ross) Bartlett of Rushville, Illinois; and his grandchildren Aiden Kinsell, Cooper Kinsell, Katelyn Kinsell, and Michael John Desyllas. He is also survived by his sister, Kelly (Mat) Mathieu, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Winifred Kinsell, his brother, Jack Kinsell, and his nephew, Thomas Kinsell.
A private service will be held at a later date and memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
