Darlene Marie Brennan

Darlene Marie Brennan, 87, of Springfield, died at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Auburn Rehabilitation and Healthcare. Darlene was born October 19, 1927 in Eldred, the daughter of Harvey and Stella Dawdy Surbeck. She married James William Brennan on November 22, 1947; he preceded her in death on November 15, 1983. Darlene worked for the Secretary of State as an administrative assistant for 25 years. She also worked at J.W. Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. as a bookkeeper. She and Bill graciously opened their heart and home to family members whenever needed. She volunteered at the Cathedral Library. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Women's Auxiliary, where she had served as Past President. Darlene loved to paint, golf, travel, and socialize with friends and family. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harvey, Jr. Bobby and Donald Surbeck; one sister, Tina K. Powell; and one son, J. Michael Brennan. She is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Tom) Maskey of Fairfax, VA and Patricia "Patty" (Kenny) Kress of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Dave) Wilson, Michael and Matthew Brennan, Christopher Maskey, Beth (Grafton) deButts, Eric Kress, and Jacob (Briana) Kress; eight great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Patricia (Jack) Maziorka of Arlington, TX and Glendon (Frances) Surbeck of Mascoutah. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 3:30 p.m. until the memorial ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Rev.
