

David was born August 17, 1961 in Concord, CA. Surviving are his wife Carol J., stepchildren Kristy Snow (fiancé Bruce Evans) and Valerie (Curtis) Nohl. David was the beloved son of Carol H. Cook of San Diego, CA and Robert E. Cook of Liverpool, NY. He had two step grandchildren, Carter and Mason Nohl. David was brother to Eric (Christine) Cook of Phoenix, AZ, Heidi Cook (husband Jim Patton) of Farmington, MI and Timothy Cook of LaGrange Park, IL. David had many extended family members including Lisa (Carl) Weitzel of Springfield, IL.
David was a 1979 graduate of Oak Park-River Forest High School and a 1988 graduate of Southern Illinois University.
David was employed as a computer programmer and advanced to a Public Service Administrator by the Illinois Department of Revenue until 2003. David was instrumental in the creation of e-file for the State of Illinois, the first in the United States to employ an electronic tax filing system. He was also responsible for developing the 2D barcode on the IL-1040 return.
David was very active in the Boy Scouts and loved camping. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed airplanes, attending Air Rendezvous regularly. The Illinois State Fair was the highlight of David’s summer. David also met with friends at Hooter’s each week for many years. David considered the staff at Hooter’s his friends who kindly cared for him with special consideration for his disability. David was proud of his step children, enjoying vacationing with them and his wife, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the David A. Cook Memorial Fund, Abraham Lincoln Council, Boy Scouts of America, 5231 South Sixth Street, Springfield IL 62703.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, IL from 4:30 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. There will be a private burial.
